Job Description
The primary purpose of the Director of Disability Services and Accessibility Resources is to provide support and assistance to students with documented disabilities who need specific accommodations and technologies to have equal access and achieve their educational goals. The Accessibilities Resources team member stays current with effective and emerging technologies that are beneficial to provide access and will support students in achieving their educational goals. This position provides support services, serves as a resource person, provides advocacy, and provides assistance. This position is integral in providing timely access to Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) with an emphasis on the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Section 504 and 508 compliance, and with consideration to developed policies from the Association of Higher Education and Disabilities (AHEAD) and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (Minnesota State). In coordination with the Dean of Equity and Inclusion, the Accessibility Resources Coordinator serves as a lead for the department staff.
 
This position provides leadership for all team members with accessibility resources responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Live the mission, vision and values of M State to ensure a positive experience for all students and stakeholders. Service to M State students and stakeholders is a core component of the position and work responsibilities.
  • Coordinate pre-admission intake, assess student accommodations, coordinate a team of people to support the students through all steps in their educational journey, and promote student self-advocacy.
  • Recognition of broad and varied professional responsibilities which include but are not limited to support for campus and college operations such as: front desk coverage, registration events, Spartan Welcome Days, Commencement, this is not an exhaustive list.
  • Develop and distribute reports and maintain data and accurate records of services in the technology platform.
  • Participate in outreach activities to build connections with students as early in the enrollment cycle as possible, review, edit, and update communication in college marketing materials and on the website, and promote accessibility resources at registration events, orientation, and other college and community events.
  • Serve as lead to facilitate collaboration across accessibility resources personnel to ensure consistency in forms, documentation, record keeping, and delivery of accommodations and serve as a lead across accessibility resources personnel to training opportunities, and updates in process.

 

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience in accessibility services.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand customer needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of various disability types including physical, learning, cognitive, and emotional disabilities.
  • Knowledge of federal/state laws pertinent to providing appropriate educational opportunities to disabled learners’ assistive technology and various auxiliary aids.
  • Knowledge of various testing accommodation options and techniques.
  • Decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to interpret Minnesota State system, state, and federal statutes and translate them into program policies and procedures and communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and requests to determine reasonable accommodations.
  • Computer application skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in social work, counseling.
  • Four or more years of experience in accessibility resources.
  • Experience with Oracle Service Cloud or other customer service management systems.
  • Experience with Integrated Student Records System (ISRS) or other data management systems.
