Status: Casual/On-Call

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the general supervision and direction of the Senior Accountant of Financial Operations, the Cashier Clerk 2

maintains positive public relations by delivering outstanding customer service to all external and internal clients. This

position provides reception services, acts as a cashier for the collections of revenue, performs clerical work, and

maintains, updates, and files a variety of records.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Customer Service

  • Contributes to the success of our team and creation of our community, by fostering the District of Squamish corporate

  • Follows the District of Squamish’s Customer Service Guidelines to ensure the Delivery of Outstanding Service.

Cashier and Clerk Duties

  • Performs finance cashier functions including the issuance of receipts and reconciliation of daily collections and
deposits.
  • Enters daily cheques received in the mail on a timely basis.
  • Processes cash collections from other departments and financial systems throughout the organization.
  • Performs financial reception duties, responds to telephone inquiries, walk-in clients, and answering general and
financial queries.
  • Uploads electronic file transfer files from our banking system into our District of Squamish financial system.
  • Summarizes, reviews, and data-enters Brennan Park Recreation deposits into our District of Squamish financial system
on a timely basis.
  • Audits landfill deposit reports and enters into the District of Squamish financial system.
  • Prepares out-going mail and stamps incoming finance mail.
  • Performs other clerical and basic accounting duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deal with customers in a professional
manner.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel, with experience working with
financial database software and electronic cash receipting systems.
  • Basic knowledge of financial functions, regulations, and rules governing municipal operations.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other departments without compromising internal controls.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to enter large volumes of data accurately and refocus quickly following interruptions.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to administrative and technological change.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with procedures and policies.
  • Ability to interpret factual information from financial records such as payment records and general ledger accounts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy legislation.
  • Ability to effectively manage difficult interactions with clients and rate payers and enforce compliance with legislation
while maintaining a professional and courteous manner.

 


REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12
  • Bondable
  • Business Administration Certificate with an accounting focus from a recognized University or College

AND

  • 2 years customer service experience in a role that required cash-handling and processing of accounts receivables
  • Experience in Local Government is an asset
OR
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Hours of Work: Current shifts (subject to change) will occur between Monday to Friday, from the hours of

Salary: $29.91 per hour

 

This is a Union position within the Collective Agreement of CUPE Local 2269 and the District of Squamish.
