SNAP is seeking a qualified individual for an Information Specialist- Digital Divide position to work in SNAP’s Mission Support Core. This position is full time and open to all qualified individuals.

Starting salary for this position is $15.65-$17.61 per hour DOE
Full salary range is $15.65- $25.06 per hour

Position Summary: Serves as a member of SNAPs Resource Team and responds to requests for information by providing informed referrals to services within and outside SNAP general programs and community partner appropriate agencies. Delivers excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Provides services to ensure smooth operation of administrative functions. Specializes in reducing client inequities related to the digital divide.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a member of the Resource Team and responds to requests for information by providing general SNAP program and/or referrals to appropriate agencies for the Community Portal Experience Cloud. Maintains accurate records of client inquires and referrals in data base as well as information and referral services in the Resource Team folders.
  • Provides support with a variety of administrative and clerical duties including but not limited to answering phones, greeting office visitors, filing, record keeping, maintaining calendars, program-specific assignments as directed and other related clerical activities.
  • Conducts research, creates handouts in partnership with SNAPs Communications team, helps introduce the Resource Team and intake staff to simple tools to assist clients with digital divide barriers most prevalent in our client community.
  • Helps ensure administrative offices are clean and neat, including conference room and mail room areas. Reports issues and supply matters to designated staff.
  • Work with on-site safety program representatives to ensure emergency response information for procedures are communicated, changes or needs reported, and updates for agency documents made for the office location.
  • Creates and updates detailed procedures for job related tasks. Completes assigned projects and performs related duties as needed or as situation dictates and looks for opportunities to keep busy; cleaning, offering help to others etc.
  • Provides back-up for office opening and/or closing activities, ensuring building security. Reports any security or maintenance issues to supervisor or building coordinator.
  • Work with coworkers and volunteers to promote a positive, respectful and productive working environment, while protecting client confidentiality and dignity.
  • Within the stated context of the specified principle job duties, serve as an ambassador of SNAPs mission and values.
  • Provides excellent customer service at all times as well as helps to grow the customer service culture within the agency.

Requirements:
Education and Experience

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years experience in a clerical position, preferably in a social service setting
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years experience in a clerical position or bookkeeping position, preferably in a social service setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income households, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information
  • General office skills, including working with multi-line phone system, computer operation, filing, adding machine and basic bookkeeping, fax machine, copy machine, and other office equipment.
  • Excellent grammar and punctuation skills with the ability to edit for accuracy and presentation
  • Ability to successfully explain the steps in a process to a person on the phone, in person or via an online meeting app at a comprehension level that meets client needs
  • High level of verbal and written business communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, with emphasis on effectively working in a team environment and with a diverse population
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office, internet search, database, and desktop publishing applications required, with aptitude and ability to learn related technical skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively in an open, fast-paced, high-stress setting with frequent interruptions
  • Good planning, organization and critical thinking skills, including ability to prioritize and communicate questions and concerns
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative and ethical judgment to resolve problems and ensure workflow is appropriately addressed in a timely manner

Work Environment/Physical Activities:
Work is conducted in an office environment, in a front-desk location that can be highly stressful at times. Some lifting of office materials and deliveries may be required. May deal with difficult people, sometimes in crisis situations.
