Reporting to the Director, Research Services, the Officer, Research Projects provides project management support to OCAD University’s (OCAD U) Canada Research Chairs and coordinates the implementation of Canadian Foundation Innovation-funded research infrastructure projects.


 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of research infrastructure projects funded through the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), including coordinating with internal departments and contractors on related renovation work, coordinating the purchase and delivery of equipment and furniture, and ensuring compliance with CFI and University policies and procedures.

  • Provide support to Canada Research Chairs with staffing needs, checking for compliance with granting agency and University policies and practices

  • Oversee the development of research program budgets, taking a portfolio and holistic approach by monitoring expenses which may be funded through several grants with varying expense eligibility and timelines

  • Work closely with Finance to ensure that appropriate budgeting and expenses processes are followed

  • Organize and hold regularly scheduled meetings with Canada Research Chairs to ensure their needs are being met; conducting on-going check-ins as necessary

  • Establish procedures to ensure that objectives for assigned projects, grants and core activities are met

  • Provide direction and advice to Canada Research Chairs throughout the project lifespan

  • Assist Canada Research Chairs with the tracking of key milestones and reporting deadlines associated with their funded research projects

  • Evaluate whether project objectives/milestones are met in consultation with the Canada Research Chairs, and identify discrepancies for the attention of the Acting Director

  • Assist Canada Research Chairs with internal policies and systems, including Purchasing, People & Culture, Colleague, Romeo, room bookings, etc.

  • Liaise with the Research Grants & Contracts Officer to develop long-term funding plans for each research program including applying for new funding opportunities

  • Identify, problem solve, and work to remove barriers to successful project completion, with emphasis on resolving issues and facilitating collaborative relationships on assigned projects across activities, collaborators, funding agencies and external stakeholders

  • Support the Director in other related tasks and special projects contributing to the successful operation of the Research Office


 

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent, with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and previous research experience will be considered assets

  • Demonstrated financial administration skills

  • Proven project management and organizational abilities, attention to detail, and initiative

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and act on funding/grant opportunities in a given field

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters

  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet critical deadlines; work well with high volume, pressure, and changing priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently as well as participate collaboratively in a team environment

  • Demonstrated experience transferring knowledge using different mediums that take into account multiple learning styles

  • Excellent technical computing skills as they relate to research management and research practice, including the ability to create accessible documents and forms and manage Excel spreadsheets

  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy while working with people both within and outside of the University

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty


 

Compensation: Hiring Range - $34.64 to $39.72 per hour commensurate with experience, plus 4% vacation pay and 7% in lieu of benefits; Salary Range - $34.64 to $45.53 per hour


 

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week. This is a temporary one-year contract position.


 

The incumbent in this role will be expected to report to work on campus.
