  • Course number and title: CSC309H5S, LEC0101 + LEC0102 – Programming on the Web

  • Course description: An introduction to software development on the web. Concepts underlying the development of programs that operate on the web; survey of technological alternatives; greater depth on some technologies. Operational concepts of the internet and the web, static client content, dynamic client content, dynamically served content, n-tiered architectures, web development processes, and security on the web. Assignments involve increasingly more complex web-based programs.

  • Estimated course enrolment: 100 (each section)

  • Number of positions: 2

  • TA support: 54 hours per 30 students enrolled per semester

  • Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023

  • Salary: Rate of pay for Sessional Lecturer I is $12,700 per half-course.

  • Minimum qualifications: M.Sc. or higher qualification in Computer Science or a related field. Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable currency and mastery.

  • Description of duties: Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including: developing and delivering lectures; preparing tutorials, assignments, tests, and marking schemes; maintaining a course website; providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students through office hours, emails, the course website, and/or the course discussion board; writing the TA contract(s) for the course and supervising the TAs; managing the grading for the course, which is largely done by TAs; doing any grading not handled by TAs; invigilating the final exam; managing the grades and submitting the final course grades; dealing with student petitions; and setting and grading a make-up exam if required. While there is a lot of room for creativity in course delivery, instructors will be expected to follow the basic content and style used by the faculty members who normally teach the course.
